Royal Mail introduces a new pricing structure today (August 21st 2006). Despite a huge campaign to inform everyone about the new rules (which will take account of the size and shape of letters and packets as well as their weight), the new system is complex and some people will struggle to understand it.
However, help is at hand. A clever little computer program from Mailcosts (Mailcosts.co.uk)
"Any complex pricing system contains quirks" says David Roberts, the Cambridge graduate who wrote the program. "For instance, the calculator reveals that, for some items, it can be more than 3 times cheaper to use a tube rather than a rectangular package."
The Mailcosts Calculator knows all about this and other potentially money saving combinations. So as well as helping to make the new postage rates easier to understand, at 99 pence (less than three First Class stamps) it could prove to be a good investment for anyone who uses the post.
Ends.
